About Our Mission

The Holy Transfiguration Hermitage
The Holy Transfiguration Hermitage

The story of our Mission began in 2004 when the monks of the Holy Transfiguration Hermitage relocated their monastery from Quebec to Gibsons Landing in British Columbia. Over the next twelve years a small group of Christians found their way to the Hermitage and began to attend services with them.

After 12 years in Gibsons Landing the Holy Transfiguration Hermitage decided it would be best to relocate further into the interior of British Columbia, and although we were sad to see them go, we joyfully pray for God to bless them in their new assignment.

The relocation of the Hermitage left the small group of Christians who had sprung up around them without a place to go for services, and so rather than scattering to the four winds we requested to form ourselves into a Mission, we were blessed to do so by The Most Reverend Irénée, Archbishop of Ottawa and Canada, on November 26th, 2015. Our Mission was dedicated to the feast day of Holy Theophany which is celebrated every year on January 6th.

At the present time Fr Michael Fourik (Rector of Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Vancouver), or another Priest, comes to Gibsons about twice per month to serve the Divine Liturgy at one of our local community halls, and on weekends when we do not have a Divine Liturgy we have a non-priestly Reader Service.

We warmly invite you to “come and see” (John 1:39) our services, and experience Orthodox Christian worship, there is no obligation and we will be happy to answer any questions enquirers may have. Please see our Calendar for times and locations, or contact us for more details.
